Concreting Adelaide

ConcretepathsandkerbinginAdelaide

A 1.2m by 20m path in Adelaide runs $2,400 to $4,200. Garden kerbing sits at $55 to $110 per linear metre. Same prep effort as a driveway, less total m2.

Why the spec matters even for small concrete jobs

Paths and kerbing get treated as small jobs and the spec slips. Wrong slab thickness, missing control joints, no expansion joint at the building interface. Within a year you have a path heaving at the doorstep or lifting against the house slab.

AS 3727 (residential pavements) applies to paths as it does to driveways. 75mm minimum for foot traffic only, 100mm where vehicle overhang is possible. Control joints at 3 to 4 metres, expansion joints where the path meets the building. Every network concreter quotes paths to that spec.

The labour minimum on small path work means the cost-per-m2 is higher than a driveway. A short 5m path pays the same site setup, formwork, and concrete truck fee as a 20m path. Batching all your path and kerbing work together reduces this cost-per-m2 meaningfully.

Garden kerbing: mow-strip vs raised profile

Mow-strip kerbing runs at or just above ground level, separating lawn from garden beds and allowing the mower to run along the top edge. It is the lower-cost option at $55 to $75 per linear metre.

Raised-profile kerbing creates a visual border 80 to 150mm above ground level, which is more effective at containing mulch and garden beds. It runs $75 to $110 per linear metre depending on profile height and finish.

Coloured kerbing adds $15 to $25 per linear metre for oxide through-mix. The colour is specified before the pour and does not fade unevenly the way topical stain does.
